LED had the opportunity to interview the awesome German producer ZEDD after his crazy wild show at LED's party at Voyeur last night. Without further ado, here are some answers for the curious and inquiring minds out there:
LED: You first got into music by playing the piano…but what was it that inspired you to start making tracks of your own?
Zedd: Well I consider myself a producer first and one of the electronic groups that I first heard was Justice…that pretty much set the bar for me. After that I got into Daft Punk and Deadmau5, who have both been such an inspiration. Then I entered into a contest on Beatport and from there things have just really been taking off.
LED: You’ve been on the road this summer with Skrillex & Porter Robinson on the Owsla tour. What has been the craziest experience for you so far?
Zedd: We did this really sick “glam shot”…we had an off day and were in this random city on the road and stopped at a mall. Skrillex tweeted about us being there, and all of a sudden a bunch of people showed up and it just got crazy. It was definitely a ridiculous experience.
LED: If life hadn’t called you to make music, what else do you think you'd be doing right now?
Zedd: That’s a tough question, because music is my passion, and I really can’t see myself doing anything else. But if it came down to it, I think I’d be a music teacher…giving back to the people. It’s all about following your dreams, and music is mine.
LED: Who are the artists that influence you most? Are there any "off the radar" DJs who you look up to?
Zedd: It’s hard for me to break it down, but I’m really into Alesso right now…he’s putting out some great stuff.
LED: What are you most excited about coming up in the next year?
Zedd: I’d really love to take some time off to produce my music, maybe rent a studio in LA and put out some of the tracks that I’ve been working on…I have a few in the works that still need some vocals, but they’re going to be sick. Also, there's the potential for me to do a show with deadmau5, Porter Robinson and some other guys…so that would be really dope. I’m just so thankful to be doing what I’m doing and I have a feeling that these next few months are going to be crazy.
